Les Lions y Barto brillan en el 20° Open de France

Se jugó el torneo más importante de Francia, en el Domaine de Chantilly Polo Club (del 4 al 20 de septiembre). Si el valor de un evento deportivo se mide por la calidad de sus participantes, para la gran celebración de su 20mo aniversario, el Open de France ofreció unas formaciones sin precedentes, con siete equipos entre los que se destacan nueve jugadores del Abierto Argentino. En una gran final entre los hermanos Castagnola, se impuso el mayor, que cerró una gran temporada. El Jeta, en tanto, también tuvo su gran verano europeo, jugando las mismas cantidad de finales que su hermano, pero con una menos ganada. Tras lucirse ambos en Inglaterra, cruzaron por primera vez el Canal de la Mancha, pero separados, y aún así llegaron a una magnífica definición. Les Lions tuvo un excelente certamen, que culminó de manera invicta y con un cómodo 10 a 6 ante Talandracas, que había alternado buenas y regulares actuaciones. Por otro lado, la Copa Subsidiaria se la adjudicó Le Pommeraye.

Sobre la versión 2020. Creado en 2001 por Patrick Guerrand-Hermès y la Federación Francesa de Polo, el Abierto de Francia ha seguido mejorando en nivel de juego. Este año ha alcanzado un pico con nueve jugadores con handicaps de 7 a 9. Además, este 20mo aniversario también traerá un número récord de equipos donde estarán representadas siete naciones: Argentina, Inglaterra, España, Estados Unidos, Holanda, Suiza y por supuesto Francia.

El campeón defensor es el team español Marqués de Riscal. Este año, los jugadores destacados presentes en Chantilly serán Barto Castagnola (h8), Jeta Castagnola (h7), Santi Laborde (h6), Guille Terrera (h8), Fran Elizalde (h8), Santiago Chavanne (h7), Tito Guiñazu (h7 ). Alejandro Muzzio (h8), Martin Aguerre Jr (h7), Juan-Gris Zavaleta (h7), Clemente Zavaleta (h7, foto) y Santiago Cernadas (h7). La gran novedad es, por supuesto, la participación de los hijos de Bartolomé Castagnola, Barto y Jeta, que vienen de ganar la prestigiosa Queen´s Cup en Inglaterra y jugarán por primera vez en Francia.

El polo francés también presentará a sus mejores jugadores, como Pierre-Henri Ngoumou (6), que ostenta un récord del Abierto de Francia tras ganar cuatro títulos en cuatro equipos diferentes, y Robert Strom (5), que viene ganador de Sotogrande en la reconocida Copa de Oro del Santa Maria Polo Club con su equipo Sainte Mesme.

About 2020 Open de France

Created in 2001 by Patrick Guerrand-Hermès and the French Polo Federation, the French Open has continued to rise in level. This major tournament of the international circuit has seen many great Argentine players who have subsequently won the famous "Abierto" in Buenos Aires. This year it has reached a peak with nine players with handicaps* from 7 to 9 - the highest international level. This 20th anniversary has also attracted a record number of teams where seven nations will be represented: Argentina, England, Spain, the United-States, the Netherlands, Switzerland and of course France.  

To defend his title, Alejandro Aznar (Marqués de Riscal) from Spain, though already well equipped with Santiago Cernada’s talent, called for a Copa Cámara winner: the handicap 8 Alejandro Muzzio. It is clear that Aznar wants to keep his trophy! French teams Sainte-Mesme and Le Pommeraye and Swiss Marquard Media are also counting on the former winners of this very tough Copa Cámara, respectively Clemente and Juan-Gris Zavaleta, as well as Martin Aguerre Jr.

This year, the exceptional players present in Chantilly who also attend the Argentine high-goal polo, therefore international, are Barto Castagnola (h8), , Jeta Castagnola (h7), Santi Laborde (h6), Guille Terrera (h8), Fran Elizalde (h8), Santiago Chavanne (h7, used to be 9), Tito Guiñazu (7). Alejandro Muzzio (h8), Martin Aguerre Jr (h7), Juan-Gris Zavaleta (h7),Clemente Zavaleta (h7, photo) and Santiago Cernadas (h7). The big news is of course the participation of Bartolomé Castagnola's sons, Barto and Jeta, they will play for the first time in France.

The French polo will also present its best players, in particular the handicap 6, Pierre-Henri Ngoumou, who holds a French Open record after winning four titles for 4 different teams. Not to forget the handicap 5 Robert Strom, who did not hesitate to commit this year to the next edition of la Copa Cámara as well. A victory of the French Open with his teammate in this adventure, his brother-in-law Clemente Zavaleta, would certainly boost their confidence before heading to Argentina!

During these three weeks (from 4th to 20th September), access to the matches is free for the public, catering facilities will be available on site on weekends, with the main match commented at 15:00.   On the day of the finals (20th September), there will be an hospitality village with various stands and activities to entertain the crowd as well.
