(English version below) Tras pasar un tiempo en Argentina el año pasado, para conseguir caballos y mejorar su polo, Rebekah Greenhill, el alma de la organización Greenhill Stabes, en Virginia, Estados Unidos, ya se encuentra en Palm Beach, en Florida, para cumplir un gran sueño junto a su marido, David: Greenhill tiene nada menos que dos equipos compitiendo en varios clubes de la zona, como el International Polo Club Palm Beach, Port Mayaca Polo Club y Grand Champions Polo Club, con la idea de expandir el polo de Virginia en la meca del polo del país del norte.
Con el invaluable e incondicional apoyo del profesional de la organización, Justo Mouriño, además de la nueva incorporación, Lucio Fernández Ocampo, Rebekah y David, siguen mejorando su organización y avanzando a pasos agigantados, no solo en lo que respecta a mejorar su nivel de juego sino en lo referente a los caballos, llevando más y mejores ejemplares, siempre con la mira en llegar lo más alto posible.
Prensa Polo charló con Rebekah, quien pese a una desafortunada lesión (se quebró una muñeca y debió ser operada), está pasando por un gran momento en Palm Beach, con la idea de hacer la mejor temporada posible para luego retornar a Virginia y organizar lo que va a ser una gran temporada de verano.
Contanos sobre lo que estás haciendo ahora en Palm Beach. ¿Qué torneos estás jugando y cuántos hay en la agenda de Greenhill?
En este momento, mi marido y yo jugamos un torneo por mes. Arrancamos en Port Mayaca Polo Club, pero también vamos a jugar en el International Polo Club Palm Beach y en Grand Champions.
¿Qué significa para Greenhill tener nada menos que dos equipos en la temporada de Wellington, en el lugar de los Estados Unidos al que todos quieren llegar?
¡Es espectacular, es muy bueno para nosotros! Es el primer año que tengo dos equipos en los torneos. Nos ha llevado una buena cantidad de tiempo, mucho trabajo y focalizar en el objetivo, pero el esfuerzo valió la pena.
¿Quiénes integran los equipos?
El equipo de David, para este mes, lo integran Justo Mouriño, Hilario Figueras y Will Ballhaus, mientras que yo juego con Justo, Lucio Fernández Ocampo y Milo Dorignac, aunque me reemplaza Will Ballhaus porque me quebré la muñeca.
Con respecto a los profesionales de la organización, Justo Mouriño y Lucio Fernández Ocampo, ¿qué nos podés contar de ellos? ¿Cómo contribuyeron en tu viaje a Argentina, con relación a mejorar como jugadora y para llevarte caballos de Argentina a Palm Beach?
Justo está con nosotros desde hace cuatro años. ¡Es una máquina! Un excepcional jinete y una parte fundamental de nuestra organización. Él me ayudó en todos estos años, para aprender a jugar mejor, adquirir caballos, y además fue quien nos recibió por primera vez en Argentina en el 2019.
En cuanto a Lucio, este es su primer año con nuestra organización y nos complace tenerlo de back, una posición en la que juega muy bien.
Tras haber logrado poner dos equipos de Greenhill en Palm Beach, ¿cuáles son tus planes para el futuro cercano tanto en Palm Beach como en Virginia?
Mi mayor meta es llegar a jugar 18 goles y hasta quizás el US Open. También mi sueño es involucrarme en la cría y hacer más caballos de alto handicap. El objetivo es convertir a Virginia en uno de los destinos más importantes de polo del mundo. Y para ello, estamos trabajando y colaborando con Beverly Polo, para mejorar y hacer crecer el polo allá.
¿Cómo estás viendo el polo en Wellington en este momento, con la pandemia aún presente, después de un año?
Es muy interesante ver el crecimiento respecto al interés por el polo y en los jugadores, pero también ahora es difícil por las limitaciones que se ponen para el ingreso de espectadores. Creo, de todas formas, que el deporte se está fortaleciendo. Y mi deseo es que todo esto pase para que la gente pueda ir a ver los partidos y crezca aún más el interés en el polo.
Una vez que finalice la temporada en Palm Beach, ¿qué se viene en el próximo verano en Virginia?
Este verano tenemos planeado jugar torneos de 8 y 12 goles con la Virginia United Polo League, una liga que va a estar muy buena y compartida con Beverly Equestrian, que es donde tenemos nuestros caballos durante esa época. Pero mi mayor plan es jugar con un muy buen equipo, mejorar mi equitación y mi polo, para jugar la temporada en Wellington; dejar descansar algunos caballos y trabajar en los nuevos.

Rebekah Greenhill - "My dream is to get involved with breeding and making high goal polo ponies"
After spending some time in Argentina to get some horses and improving her polo skills, Rebekah Greenhill, the head of the Virginia-based Greenhill Stables, is already in Palm Beach, Florida, following her ultimate dream alongside her husband, David, with no less than two teams that will compete in various clubs, such as International Polo Club Palm Beach, Port Mayaca Polo Club and Grand Champions Polo Club, and with the idea to spread Virginia Polo in the mecca of polo in the United States.
With the remarkable help of their professional, Justo Mouriño, as well as their new addition, Lucio Fernández Ocampo, Rebekah and David are improving their organisation, in order to get better and better, not only playing-wise, but also horse-wise, aiming always at the top.
Prensa Polo talked to Rebekah, who, despite an unfortunate injury (she has broken her wrist and underwent surgery) is enjoying such a great time in Palm Beach, with the hopes to have the best season possible, after returning back to Virginia to host an upcoming fantastic summer season.
Tell us about your current activities in Palm Beach. Which tournaments are you playing now and how many tournaments Greenhill are due to play?
Right now, my husband and myself each have one tournament per month for the season. We started off at Port Mayaca Polo Club, and we will also play at the international Polo Club and Grand Champions.
How does it feel for Greenhill, the organisation, to have no less than two teams in the season in Wellington, where everybody want to play?
It feels amazing and very exciting!! This is the first year I have a full team to enter into tournaments. It’s taken a long time, hours, hard work, and focus to get to this point. But worth it!!
How are both teams comprised? Who are the team members?
This month, David’s team is composed of Justo Mourino, Hilario Figueras, and Will Balhaus. My team have Justo, Lucio Fernández Ocampo and Milo Dorignac, but with Will Balhaus filling in in the first tournament, because I broke my wrist.
What can you tell us about Justo Mouriño and Lucio Fernández Ocampo? Mostly Justo, who is the organisation's main professional. How did they help during your trip to Argentina to get organised for the polo in Palm Beach?
Justo has been with us for almost 4 years now. He is a machine! He is an amazing horseman and an essential part of the organization. He has helped me improve over the years, learn and acquire new horses. He hosted us for our first year in Argentina, back in 2019.
With regards to Lucio, this is his first year with our organization and we are excited to add a fourth player and the important position that he plays as back.
With regards to Palm Beach, and having two Greenhill teams for the first time, what are your aims for the near future? Specially on raising the level for polo in Virginia and having Virginia being represented in Palm Beach.
The ultimate goal is to play the 18 goal, and perhaps eventually the US Open. My dream has also been to get involved with breeding and making high goal polo ponies. The goal for Virginia is to make it one of the top polo destinations in the world. Along with Beverly Equestrian, we have worked a lot to contribute to improve the sport in Virginia.
How do you see the Wellington polo scene at the moment, with the pandemic still going around, for a whole year now?
It’s been interesting to see the increase in interest and in players, but also difficult to see the limitations on spectators. I believe the sport is going strong; but I just hope there is a solution, to allow more people to come and watch the games, more encouragement and enthusiasm in polo.
Once the Palm Beach season comes to an end, what's coming up for the summer in Virginia, regarding to tournaments and to keep the organisation growing?
This summer we plan on playing 8-goal and 12-goal tournaments in Virginia, with Virginia United Polo League, which is an exciting new league spearheaded by Beverly Equestrian, the place where we have our ponies in summer time, as well.
I plan to play with a full team. My main goal every summer is to improve my riding and skills for the wellington season, let some horses rest and work with new horses.
